Stanley C. Hollander Best Retailing Paper Award

The Stanley C. Hollander Best Retailing Paper Award is presented at the AMS Annual Conference to honor the most outstanding full paper on a topic related to retailing or services marketing. The award is named in recognition of the renowned academic, Dr. Stanley C. Hollander. Dr. Hollander held positions at the University of Buffalo, the University of Minnesota, the University of Pennsylvania, and Michigan State University, where he made significant contributions to the fields of consumer behavior, marketing, retailing, and public policy.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hollander authored 10 influential books and contributed over 125 articles, many of which have been widely reprinted in leading academic journals and anthologies. His work left a lasting legacy in the field of retailing and made a significant impact on the history of marketing. Dr. Hollander was the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, including the New York University School of Retailing Merchants’ Council Award, the Outstanding Marketing Educator Award from the American Marketing Society, and induction into the Retail Education Hall of Fame.


Eligibility Requirements

All papers submitted to the AMS Annual Conference, with the exception of papers submitted to special sessions, are eligible for the Stanley C. Hollander Best Retailing Paper Award. The awarded paper can come from any track.  


Selection Process

Winners are selected through a process overseen by the AMS Annual Conference Program Chair(s). At the discretion of the Program Chair(s), a subcommittee may assist in the selection process. Papers are nominated for the award by reviewers through the competitive review process. The Program Chair(s) is responsible for selecting the final choice for the Stanley C. Hollander Best Retailing Paper Award. The selected paper need not have been submitted to a specific “Services” or “Retailing” track.


Winner Recognition

Winners are awarded a certificate in addition to a $150* check drawn from a U.S. bank. Wire transactions are available for international recipients. Note: For papers with more than one author, the certificate and funds will be distributed to the first author.  It is at the discretion of the first author to divide the funds.
