AMS Distinguished Fellow Award

AMS introduced the honorary title of Distinguished Fellow in 1990. This title is granted to a limited number of AMS members—Fellows—who have demonstrated exceptional service to the Academy over a considerable period of time. The selection process takes into account the Academy's Goals and Objectives, which are outlined in the annual membership roster and other relevant sources. Once awarded, the Distinguished Fellow title is held indefinitely, unless the Academy revokes it for valid reasons.

At any given time, no more than 3% of the active members of the Academy can hold the Distinguished Fellow title. Retired, deceased, or inactive members do not count toward the 3% limit.

The Distinguished Fellow award is separate from the Academy's annual Outstanding Marketing Educator award, which focuses on distinguished research and publication achievements and is open to both members and non-members.

Selection Process

To select a Distinguished Fellow, the Board of Governors appoints a committee of five AMS Distinguished Fellows who recommend candidates, submitting its selections to the Academy's Executive Council for confirmation.
