President’s Message: Farewell from Marko Sarstedt

I write my final message as President of AMS with immense gratitude. Serving as your President has been a tremendous honor, and I am deeply thankful for the opportunity to lead this remarkable organization over the past two years.

What makes AMS truly special is its community. Our conferences are far more than venues for presenting research – they are where collaborations begin, friendships develop, and careers are shaped. I experienced this myself when I met Joe Hair at the 2009 AMS Annual Conference, a meeting that profoundly influenced my academic journey. It has been wonderful to see similar connections emerge throughout my presidency.

Together, we have strengthened the ways AMS serves and connects its members. We launched AMS Spotlight to keep members informed, expanded AMS Sparks to make research more accessible, continued AMS Illuminations, strengthened our LinkedIn presence, streamlined our communication and web presence (e.g., on Wikipedia), and further developed the Marketing PhD Jobs platform. These initiatives reflect our commitment to creating value for members while increasing the visibility and impact of marketing scholarship. We also introduced a new data access and code-sharing policy for JAMS and AMS Review, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and rigorous science.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the collective efforts of our community. My heartfelt thanks go to the officers, directors, board or governors, journal editors and editorial teams, conference organizers, reviewers, volunteers, and, above all, YOU, our members.

As I hand over the presidency to Nina Krey, I do so with great confidence in AMS’s future. Our Academy continues to grow because of the generosity, collegiality, and intellectual curiosity of its members. I look forward to remaining an active part of this wonderful community and to seeing many of you at future AMS conferences.

Serving as your President has been one of the greatest privileges of my academic career. Thank you for your trust, your friendship, and your unwavering support.

With sincere appreciation,

Marko Sarstedt
President of the Academy of Marketing Science
