Message from the President: November 2025
Academic dissemination has never been easier—or noisier. Platforms like LinkedIn allow researchers to readily share insights beyond paywalls and across disciplines with just a few clicks.
Yet, scrolling through my feed, I can’t help but feel that a growing share of posts—along with the eager “insightful!” and “so true!” comments underneath—sound eerily familiar. Not because the ideas are converging (which would be nice), but because they read as though they were all written by the same entity: ChatGPT. The vocabulary, the cadence, the effortless confidence—it’s as if the entire platform has been subtly ghostwritten by polite, overcaffeinated language models.
Perhaps this is the next stage in open scholarship: fully automated academic networking. Maybe we need a new platform—call it “AInkedIn”—where large language models can congratulate each other on their thought leadership, engage in tasteful humble-bragging about their latest achievements like hitting 10,000 simulated followers, and share AI-generated reflections on humility. Humans could simply sit back and applaud the efficiency.
Until then, I suppose I’ll keep scrolling, trying to ignore the algorithmic eloquence and focus on authentic engagement—such as on our AMS LinkedIn page. If you’re not following yet, please do so!
